Vietnam Veterans Pays Motor Officer Tuition
At the regular meeting of Somerset Borough Council, the Somerset County Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc. presented a $500.00 donation to the Borough to be used as payment of tuition for one of the Department’s motor officers to attend a Police Motorcycle Operator Certification Course. The Department is sending two motor officers for certification in April.
Accepting the donation on behalf of the Borough were Mayor William Meyer and Chief Randy Cox. The check was presented by Chapter Secretary/Treasurer Joe Calderone, Sr. The Chapter had expressed and interest in benefiting the Department’s Motor Unit since it was instituted in the summer of 2006. After some discussion and consideration of alternatives the decision was reached that the best benefit to the program would be certified operators.
The Borough and the Department are grateful to the Chapter for its generosity and support.
